We live in one of the greatest communities in the world and are receiving the accolades to prove it! Carmel-by-the-Sea has been voted one of the Best Small Towns in America by Condé Nast Traveler. Carmel Beach was recently named one of the 25 best beaches in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure. USA Today recognizes Carmel for having one of the best small town art scenes and Golf Digest currently includes five of our local golf courses in their Top 100 U.S. Golf Courses rankings.
For those of us lucky enough to spend time here, we already know how outstanding the quality of life is on the Monterey Peninsula. It is energizing to see so many people enjoying our community this summer. The joy is amplified by the reality that our thriving community, new hotels, restaurants and retail stores are opening, and life is resetting with renewed optimism for a waning pandemic.
In addition to our thriving businesses, the streets are bustling, and the outdoor areas: golf, hiking, beach, and more are all in active use. At the same time, the real estate market is shifting from the record sales and growth of 2020 and 2021. The frenzy of multiple offers is slowing down, placing more pressure on pricing. However, as the demand to live here continues to outpace supply, we believe our market will perform better than most markets across the country.
There have been several extraordinary homes sold this year and Carmel Realty Company is responsible for establishing new record sales in both Pebble Beach and Big Sur. We already hold the record for the highest price sale in Carmel. This week, we are honored to bring to market arguably the most iconic home on The Peninsula. In that same article, we speak with Ross Merrill, President of Laguna Seca Raceway Foundation, about several of the changes and improvements taking place at this world-famous racetrack.
In our "Wine Not" feature, we celebrate the global relationship-building that two of our local restaurateurs do on our behalf in order to provide us with access to some of the world's greatest wines. David Fink of Aubergine and Luca Restaurants and Kurt Grasing of Grasing's Restaurant both work tirelessly to offer gourmet dinners paired with world-class wine, along with access and allocation to old and new winemakers across the globe.

Bill Mitchell dies at 83
Mitchell, who died March 26, was a man who was decorated for his service as an Air Force pilot in Vietnam, went on to fly commercially for three decades, established what would become the Monterey Peninsula's foremost luxury real estate firm, gave generously of his time and resources — and amidst all of that, managed to squeeze every bit of fun out of life.
