The Summer/Fall 2023 Edition of 1913 Luxury by the Sea Magazine is Now on Streets!
August 11, 2023
Carmel and Pebble Beach's ultimate guide to luxury real estate and lifestyle.
Welcome to the Monterey Peninsula oasis. An oasis is defined by Webster's Dictionary as "something that provides refuge, relief, or pleasant contrast." We have long been celebrating how fortunate we are to get to spend time here on the Monterey Peninsula. Lately, with the pandemic, financial crisis, and geopolitical turmoil around the world, much of our focus has been on community and the safe, healthy, and easy way of living we are afforded here on the Peninsula.
Now, this summer, we are celebrating the pure beauty of our oasis. After months of record setting rain, the summer sun has ignited a 'superbloom' featuring marvelous displays of wildflowers from the coast to the valley. The beaches are sparkling, the golf courses are plush and every minute outside reminds us of how beautiful this place is and how lucky we are to live here.
It is appropriate that this edition of 1913 features a colorful piece on The Carmel-by-the-Sea Garden Club and all the great work they have done for decades to make our community a more beautiful place. While enjoying a stroll through Carmel you can see the fruits of their labor in the striking gardens of Piccadilly Park, Harrison Memorial Library, City Hall, along the beach, and many other important spaces throughout the area.
The downtown area is bustling with busy streets, restaurants and shops. We feature three high-end luxury stores that provide an array of different products, clothing, and gifts, yet all share a commitment to quality and service. Augustina's, Shoshin, and Social Hour are each fantastic in their own way and each provide function and character to our town.
At Carmel Realty Company and sister company Monterey Coast Realty, we celebrate our experienced team of local experts. In this edition of 1913, we feature REALTOR® Chrissy Handel who shares with us what it was like growing up in this community and how she, as a true local, accesses all we have to offer now with her own family.
Sorting through the variety of galleries in town can be daunting, so we like to feature some of our favorites and highlight their artists of interest. Michael Snodgrass is an abstract artist with a unique style, including primal impressionist work, that many collectors from around the world have taken a liking to. His work is being presented by Monica Graham Fine Art in downtown Carmel.
This last month, Carmel Realty Company is proud to have represented the landmark sale of the beautiful Butterfly House on Scenic Road in Carmel. The unique marketing and positioning required to properly represent a home of this magnitude is highlighted in this magazine. As always, we are proud to showcase some of the outstanding properties our professional agents have for sale across the Peninsula along with other highlights of homes recently sold. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if we can assist you, or your friends and family, with any real estate activity.
We hope you enjoy 1913 Luxury by the Sea.

Bill Mitchell dies at 83
If you never met Bill Mitchell, by all accounts, you should wish you had.
Mitchell, who died March 26, was a man who was decorated for his service as an Air Force pilot in Vietnam, went on to fly commercially for three decades, established what would become the Monterey Peninsula's foremost luxury real estate firm, gave generously of his time and resources — and amidst all of that, managed to squeeze every bit of fun out of life.

Grammy-Award Winner Alan Silvestri's Carmel Highlands Estate
Set on a stunning knoll in the mythical Carmel High- lands with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, a Central Coast estate has provided decades of inspiration for Grammy-award winning composer Alan Silvestri and his wife Sandra. Enjoying a rare privacy afforded by being set on 14 acres between two quiet roads, the couple spent more than 10 years restoring the main house and three guest properties, while working and living on site, raising three children, and launching Silvestri Vineyards.
